Standardized Testing
Standardized testing is not only an invalid measure of a student or school’s success, but high-stakes standardized testing is detrimental to schools and education as a whole. Standardized testing:
Co-opts curriculum.
Deadens inspiration, interest and innovative thinking and learning.
Focuses educators on quantitative outcomes instead of the childhood experience of learning.
Interrupts real learning and assessment.
City Neighbors takes a strong and vocal stance against standardized testing. Our curriculum is not designed to prepare for standardized testing, and our teachers and students do not focus on testing as an authentic and meaningful task.
